Perfect Park- A People's Paradise

Located at the top of the loop between Embarcadero Del Norte and Embarcadero del Mar, Perfect Park is a beautiful and relaxing park perfect for picnics, reflections, or a quick game of Frisbee. However, not only is the park a place of beauty and tranquility, but it is also a place of significant historical contribution to Isla Vista. It was the only developed park in Isla Vista before the park district was created in 1972 and has played an important role in the protesting that took place during the Vietnam War (cite book). On June 10th, 1970 students, faculty, and local residents took part in a protest against the martial law, which was being enforced in Isla Vista at the time. Although the protest was peaceful, after protestors refused to disassemble, the LA Riot Squad beat and arrested over 350 people at Perfect Park (cite article). This event eventually forced the Governor of California at the time to end the military occupation in Isla Vista and helped create peace in the community. Due to this situation, the community rallied around each other and in 1972 the Parks District was created. While enjoying this peaceful park and flower garden, take time to reflect on the historical contributions that have helped shape Isla Vista for the present and future generations.
